Today, I feel again. The depression has subsided. The anger has returned. The Faith in God is strong, but the pride in saying I’m a Christian is confronted with shame. Nowadays, I have more in common with the atheist coworker than I do the pastor in the pulpit. You are not my brother. You are not my sister. We both believe Jesus is coming back, but I don’t think we believe on what He is coming back for. The wolf is not hiding, it is here. The Antichrist is not just a figure, it is a movement. You cannot say I am your brother when you celebrate hotlines being taken away from communities. You cannot say I matter if you stutter to say a black life matters. How can I believe in your love, when you ignore the suffering of my people? Your approval of me means nothing when I know what you approve of. Everything is political until it becomes personal. Nothing ever matters until you are affected by it. A Christian with a blind eye is no different than the devil you claim to fear. Who would Jesus have been if He refused to stand up for the oppressed? For the widows and the children, and the ones who the world had condemned? Everything you hate is what your savior is. Everything you despise is who your God is. He is the one who is hungry. He is the one who is thirsty. He is the one in prison. He is the one who is sick. He is the stranger. He is the immigrant. He is the one who is misunderstood. The one you refused to acknowledge is Him. Using Faith as an excuse to tear down another, are you sure you’re who you say you are? This fig*t is not against the ones in need, it’s against the ones who’ve convinced you they were your enemy. I promise you, you have more in common with your neighbor than you do the rich man. I ask you to really evaluate how you see and treat people. What’s the cost for you to be kind today? Sometimes, living is overwhelming. Scary. Confusing. Debilitating. In this moment, I feel all the above. I’ve exceeded my life expectancy. I forget sometimes I didn’t plan this far ahead. No one prepared me for the pressure that sits in my chest constantly. I did not anticipate the sorrow I get from seeing my family grow older. I struggle many days to find the hope to see the sun rise again. Living means I have to face every fear. Every doubt. Every thought. It’s tiring. Everyday I watch the world lose it’s humanity. I see people use the Bible to dehumanize a neighbor. I don’t know when it cost so much to be kind. Young me wouldn’t recognize the world today. It’d devastate him to see what we’ve become. Amazingly though, I know he wouldn’t surrender. I know he wouldn’t allow the world to harden his heart. He wouldn’t give up digging to find the good in others. He’d do anything to help someone in need. He would want to be a hero, just like his favorites. Just like Spider-Man. Just like Goku. Just like Jesus. No shame. No fear. Just a dream to change the world. I’ve searched for him for years. Somedays it feels like I’ll never find him. The mirror’s become a bit hazy, but a little birdie once told me “despite everything, it’s still you.” Maybe I’ll find him the day I believe that. Until then, I know I can never let him down. However long God permits me, I will give everything I have here. I will leave this world better than I found it. It’s not my responsibility to do so, but it’s the dream. The last remnant that connects me to that kid. The one who’s gonna change the world. If you made it this far, thanks for reading my rant. I hope you know you’re here for a reason. It’s hard. I know. It takes courage to be here sometimes, and for that I’m so proud of you. They may not understand, but show them who you are. There’s a lot more life for you to live, and you’re gonna go far.
